An opportunity

Empty bowls was a fundraiser that I participated in last fall. It was an event that supported those in my community that are financially distressed or at risk of becoming homeless. This was an idea that a gal from my pottery community created in order to support an organization called Help and Hope.

Some of the local potters were asked if they would like to donate a bowl or two. I was one of the donors. The tickets were 25.00 Those that bought a ticket would be able to pick a bowl from the table, keep it and eat some of the soup provided along with some bread.

The bowl I picked happened to be Kim’s. It was the blue bowl with the butterfly.

QUOTE: We could have involved the men every step along the way. From planning the meal, to shopping for food, to helping with serving and clean up. We could have done supper with the men, working and eating side by side rather then giving supper to the men, engaging in them.

An old saying is give a man a fish he will eat for a day. Show him how to fish he will eat for a lifetime.

Sometimes you have to help in a different way and other times you have to gain a relationship while showing a skill and helping.

The book was a way that gave some basic principles in helping another in need. Very inspiring as I considered what the author was communicating.
