Color
In seeking understanding of color I came across a book “Journeys in Natural Dyeing” by Kristine Vejar and Adrienne Rodriguez. It intrigued me as the cover was that of a rich blue that was captivating.
I had recently gone to the art store and bought some water color supplies. In looking near the shelf nearby I observed a natural blue dye.
It was at home that I began a new study of natural dyes taking a cotton tea towel and dyed it creating the color of the sky.
This would be a detour and yet an added experience to my process of art studies as I learn about clouds and the atmosphere above me.
I found another book that was on my shelf . Old but one that I had begun to read a while ago and never finished reading it. The Letterbook of Eliza Lucas Pinckney. This was her study and experiments of Indigo and how she created a business from color. I think I may buy some indigo seeds and experiment myself on how to grow them as I learn the process of the blue dye from this plant.
My recent detour turned out to be a beautiful experience of learning. I hope I have more of them.
